Knowing Allah Through Creation

The Cloud That Travelled

4 minute read · with Yusuf, Grandma Safiyyah

The Cloud That Travelled

Yusuf lay on the warm grass with his hands behind his head. A big, fluffy cloud floated slowly above him, soft and white like cotton.

"Where are you going, little cloud?" he asked.

Grandma Safiyyah sat down beside him with a smile. "Would you like to know?"

Yusuf nodded.

"Allah gathers the clouds from many places," Grandma said. "He carries them over deserts and forests, over busy cities and quiet villages. And when He wishes, He tells them, 'Here. Rain here.' "

Yusuf's eyes opened wide. "The cloud listens?"

"Everything in the sky listens to Allah," Grandma whispered. "The clouds, the wind, the rain. They go where Allah sends them."

Far away, in a dry little village, an old farmer raised his hands and asked Allah for water. Slowly, gently, the cloud Yusuf had been watching floated toward him. Soft raindrops began to fall. The farmer smiled and whispered, "Alhamdulillah."

Yusuf grinned up at the sky. "Allah, You are amazing," he whispered. "Thank You for sending the clouds."

Little Tawheed lesson

Allah controls the sky and sends rain to the people and places that need it.

From the Qur'an

"It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds…"

Surah Ar-Rum 30:48

For little hearts: Allah moves the wind and the clouds. He decides where the rain falls — it's not by accident.

Three little wonders

  1. 1What did Yusuf see in the sky?
  2. 2Who sends the clouds and the rain?
  3. 3What can we say when it begins to rain?

Parent discussion guide

  • Stand by a window during rain. Say together: 'Allahumma sayyiban nafi'a' — O Allah, make it a beneficial rain.
  • Talk about how rain helps farms, animals, and our food grow. Connect rain to gratitude.
  • Help your child notice that big things in nature (rain, wind, sun) are all under Allah's care.
