The Little Seed That Grew

4 minute read ยท with Amina, Grandma Safiyyah

The Little Seed That Grew

One bright morning, Amina sat in Grandma Safiyyah's garden with a tiny brown seed resting in her palm. "Grandma," she whispered, "it is so small. How can a tree ever come from this?"

Grandma Safiyyah smiled and scooped a little hole in the soft earth. "Pop it in, my love. Then we wait, and we watch."

Amina patted the soil and sprinkled cool water on top. Every day she peeked. Every day the soil looked the same. "Grandma, nothing is happening!" she sighed.

"Allah is working, even when our eyes cannot see," Grandma whispered. "Under the soil, your seed is busy."

One sunny morning, Amina ran outside and stopped still. A tiny green tip was peeking through the earth! She gasped and clapped her hands. "It grew, Grandma! It really grew!"

Grandma Safiyyah knelt beside her. "Who made the seed know how to grow, habibti? Who told the roots to dig down and the leaves to reach up?"

Amina thought for a long, quiet moment. Then her eyes shone. "Allah did. Allah taught the seed."

Grandma kissed the top of her head. "Yes, my love. Allah is the One who gives life to everything."

That night, Amina whispered "Alhamdulillah" before she closed her eyes. Somewhere outside, a tiny green shoot stretched up to meet the moon.

Little Tawheed lesson

Allah gives life. Even the smallest seed grows because Allah cares for it.

From the Qur'an

"Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds."

โ€” Surah Al-An'am 6:95

For little hearts: Allah is the One who opens up tiny seeds and lets a beautiful plant come out. No one else can do that โ€” only Allah.

Three little wonders

  1. 1What did Amina notice in the garden?
  2. 2Who makes a tiny seed grow into a tree?
  3. 3Can you think of something small that Allah made grow?

A little dua

Alhamdulillahi rabbil-'alameen

"All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all that exists."

Parent discussion guide

  • Take your child outside to look at a plant, a leaf, or a flower. Ask, 'Who made this?'
  • Plant a real seed together (a bean or lentil in cotton) and check it each day. Use the moment to whisper 'SubhanAllah' together.
  • Reassure your child that Allah works even when we can't see โ€” a comforting lesson for everyday worries too.
